The
Hampstead school of English (London)
The School was established in 1977 and is owned
by the Partners, Jill and Leslie Sieff. Over the years, the school has grown,
and around 350 students at any time now study here, some for a few weeks but many
for several months or more. Hampstead is one of London’s best preserved old villages,
surrounded by 800 acres of countryside known as the Heath.
Many writers
and intellectuals have lived and still live in Hampstead Village and around the
Heath. There are twelve language levels ranging from beginner to advanced with
a maximum of 8 students in mini-group classes and 15 in standard classes. The
staff of the School is very committed in the aim to provide excellence in tuition,
accommodation and care of each and every student. The students can take 15,
20 or 30 hours of English per week.
Here you also can take a preparation
course to TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge Exam. The Hampstead School of English
arranges accommodation for students in homestays, private residence, hotels and
studio apartments and try to arrange this within an average commuting time of
20 or 35 minutes.
The school ensures that there is only one student of
each mother tongue resident in the house. This gives the student the opportunity
of speaking English rather than their native language and mixing with students
from other countries.
Studying at the Hampstead School of English will
keep your social calendar full. The weekly programme has something for everyone.
There are visits to museums, tours in and around London, sports, parties, walks,
pub tours, discos and more.At weekends you can choose at least two excursions
to other cities and places of interest outside London.
On your first day at school
you take a specially designed written, listening and oral placement test, so that
we can place you in the appropriate class for your language level.

Acreditations The school is a member of three separate
quality-focussed organisations, which ensure you receive the best possible service
at all times and give you the security of being able to refer to an outside body
if ever you feel it necessary. These organisations
are:ARELS, IALC and EAQUALS.
The school is regularly inspected by the British Council, EAQUALS and IALC
The school
has an excellent network of homestays and other accommodation within easy travelling
distance of the School, and their location on the edge of Central London close
to attractive residential areas means that travelling times are reasonable. Most
of the accommodations are within an average commuting time of 20 to 35 minutes.
However, London is a big city and sometimes there are delays in the public transport
system. When accommodation is not within walking distance (i.e. more than
20 minutes on foot), we do our best to place students on direct transport routes,
such as buses that stop directly outside the School. All
accommodation is subject to availability. In the summer in particular, we ask
students to give a second choice. We
want our students to be happy and hope that they will like the accommodation we
have arranged for them, but students may change their accommodation if they wish.
The Accommodation Search Fee is charged once only for each new accommodation and
course booking and includes any changes. An Administration Fee is charged
when students cancel their accommodation. Our
Enrolments Officers dealing with accommodation are available throughout the day
and all students (and homestays) are given emergency numbers so that they can
be contacted at any time.

Homestay Students stay with a local host, which may be a typical ‘family’

London is a cosmopolitan city with many different types of people from many different
backgrounds and this is reflected in our homestays. >>

Superior
Homestay This type of accommodation
is the same as Homestay, except that the student has exclusive use of a bathroom,
usually en-suite. This type of homestay is very limited and we ask students
to give a second choice. This
is suitable for students who are prepared to pay extra to have their own bathroom. Download
factsheet about your Homestay | | Multi-stay
/ private home
Multi-stays
are large, privately owned homes that accommodate more than three adult students
(4+ adults) at the same time. Rooms are rented to students and the owner,
or ‘manager’, is on hand to help with any problems with the accommodation that
the students may have. There is a set mealtime for dinner and the bathroom
is shared with other students and often the owner/manager of the accommodation.
Some multi-stays have a communal space where students can relax and watch TV.
Others offer room only. This accommodation can be booked as bed and breakfast
or half board. This
accommodation option is good for students who want to live a relatively independent
life while still having comfort and value-for-money. Students may have very
little contact with the other guests or the owner. Apart from mealtimes,
they are completely free to come and go as they please. Download
factsheet about your Multistay | | Studio
(self-catering)
A
studio apartment consists of one room used for both living and sleeping.
The School owns several houses containing studios between 15 and 20 minutes walking
distance from the School. All studios have modern furnishing, televisions,
modem outlets with ISDN broadband access (data only – no voice), study space and
good storage space. All our studios are newly refurbished to a high standard
and all have their own private shower room and toilet. Some studios contain
small kitchenettes and some share a communal kitchen (3 to 4 studios per kitchen).
All are supplied with bedlinen and towels and kitchens are all fully equipped. A
deposit of £200 is payable. This is refunded less a £25 cleaning charge
per person on departure, provided no damage has been caused. These studios
represent good value compared with the high cost of similar accommodation in London.
Our studios are ideal for
students aged 25+ who want to be completely independent. They are also conveniently
close to the school. This is our only accommodation option with kitchen
(self-catering) facilities. Download
