We meet at the School's Residence
in San Juan Street, and from here we depart to board a bus that will
take us to Granada.
In Granada we will visit the immense palace-fortress known as the
Alhambra.
The Alhambra which is inscribed in the World Heritage list, not only
for its beauty, but also because it reflects an important period of
Spanish history, the Arab era.
We will visit the three sections of the Alhambra: the military section
or Alcazaba,
the luxurious Palacios Nazaríes (Nasrid Palaces),
and we will also enjoy the gardens of the Generalife,
where the murmur of the water and the freshness and fragrance of the
plants will prepare us for the rest of our visit.
Next, we will go to a district that forms part of the historical make-up
of the Arab era: the famous Albaicín
district which is characterised by its typical
houses called Carmens and by the typical representative image of Granada:
the spectacular view of the Alhambra from the mirador
de San Nicolás (Saint Nicholas viewpoint),
with the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada.
Later, we will visit the
historical centre of the city, where we will find the impressive Cathedral
which is considered to be the first Renaissance church in Spain. Next
to the Cathedral we will see the Alcaicería,
a typical Jewish market with narrow streets which will complete our
impression of the influences left in the city by the three different
cultures: Christian, Arab and Jewish.
